Located near Chigang Tower on Yizhou Island, Haizhu District, Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China, Canton Tower stands 125 meters from the southern bank of the Pearl River, facing Zhujiang New Town, Huacheng Square and Haixinsha Island across the river. The main tower body reaches 454 meters, with an antenna mast of 146 meters, bringing the total height to 600 meters. As the tallest tower in China, it is rated as a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.
As a landmark structure of Guangzhou, the tower is engineered to withstand magnitude-8 earthquakes and Category 12 typhoons, with a designed service life of over 100 years.
Between 168 meters and 334.4 meters above the ground lies the Spider Walk, the world’s highest and longest sky walkway. A revolving restaurant at 422.8 meters ranks as the world’s highest rotating restaurant. A Ferris wheel installed at 450–454 meters atop the tower is the highest of its kind worldwide. The Sky Drop ride, situated on the antenna mast at 455–485 meters, is the world’s tallest vertical drop attraction.
Affiliated to Guangzhou City Investment Group, Canton Tower was constructed by Guangzhou Construction Group and Shanghai Construction Group. It covers a total construction area of 114,054 square meters. Completed in September 2009, the tower officially opened to the public on September 30, 2010, and began ticketed operation on October 1, 2010.
The tower features five functional zones and a wealth of recreational facilities, including outdoor viewing platforms, a Ferris wheel and the Sky Drop ride, two sightseeing halls, a suspended corridor, sky ladders, 3D & 4D cinemas, Chinese and Western catering, conference facilities, shopping malls and popular science exhibition halls.
